AQFQ: Jessica Calla

1. Which of your books should readers start with, and why?

I’m going to punt with this one and say “it depends!” If you’re into a sweet, Hallmark-y type romance, start with SNOWED IN. If you’re into something a bit steamier, try BREAKING THE PLAN. But maybe you’re not into romance at all, so you may want to start with MAPLE SUMMER WALLACE, which is more of an adventure.

2. Describe what readers should expect when they read your work.

With every Calla book, readers should expect layered characters with witty dialogue, and kisses in alleys (I don’t know what’s up with me and alleyway kisses!).

3. When did you start writing, and why?

I was always a reader, but I didn’t start writing until my kids started to sleep through the night, about ten years ago. I write as a form of therapy and escape.

4.  What is a goal you have as an author?

I’d love to write something that affects people so much that they feel compelled to discuss it on Book Twitter. I hope someday I can create something emotionally powerful like that.

5. What should readers expect from you next?

I’m working on a few projects–another sweet romance, and another more steamy romance. I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy though, so who knows where that will lead! I write where my heart takes me, and hope my readers enjoy the results!

Jessica Calla is a contemporary romance and women’s fiction author who leaves her Christmas lights up all year long. Although Jessica’s passion is reading and writing about love and relationships deep into the night hours, she moonlights during the day as an attorney. If she’s not writing, lawyering, or parenting, you’ll most likely find her scrolling through her Twitter feed, binge-watching Netflix, or gulping down way too much caffeine (sometimes all three at once). A Jersey girl through and through, she resides in the central part of the state with her handsome husband, two charming sons, and a princess dog.
