1. What is your biggest challenge as an author?
My biggest challenge would be forcing myself to write when the motivation isn’t there. I’m always thinking about writing, but when I can’t be bothered to do it, I grow frustrated. The ideas continue to percolate with no release.
2. Which of your books should readers pick up first?
If they like campy horror stories, they should pick up Sinister Tentacle Sorority. It’s not tentacle porn, I promise! It’s about a young girl who joins a sorority because her mom suggested it. During her time at Gamma Rho Lambda, she discovers what lurks beneath the house.
If they like campy Flash Gordonesque sci-fi, then Book 1 of my Perils of S.P.A.C.E.: The Crystal Eggs would be a great place to start. It’s reminiscent of the old-timey radio plays our grandparents listened to or even watched as kids. It’s great fun!
3. What is your ultimate author goal?
My ultimate author goal would be the next Hugh Howey. To have a small and devoted fan base who will hang from every word I write. I’d like to go to small cons and be a panelist, do book signings, and hang out with folks who love to read.
4. What inspires you most?
What inspires me the most is being around books. I love going to bookstores and looking for the type of books I write: Gay fiction featuring Black lead characters. When I don’t find them, it spurs me to create them so that one day, a young, gay Black person will find them.
5. What should readers expect from you next?
Readers can expect omnibus copies of Perils of S.P.A.C.E. Books 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9 in the coming months, new episodes of Bones & Gravy (a fantasy serial) on Saturdays, and maybe a new serial about treasure hunting dads!
